Pilates/Yoga Fusion Classes
Pilates is a method of stretching, strengthening, and balancing the body. It incorporates breathing, movement and body positioning to strengthen the muscles, especially the core postural muscles: these help keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine.
Pilates benefits include:
- Longer, leaner muscles
- Core strength and stability
- Injury prevention
- Relief from stress and back pain
- Improved balance and coordination
- Heightened mind body awareness
Class Structure
A Pilates class begins with warm up exercises that demonstrate the five Pilates principles which are the foundation for Pilates movement. This is followed by a series of exercises designed to strengthen all muscle groups with emphasis on the deep torso muscles. For the most part exercises are done lying on the floor on a matt in supine and prone positions, or from a sitting position. The class pace varies as students start to understand the substance of the movements; questions are definitely encouraged. The Stott style of Pilates is based on safety and on multiple levels of difficulty, so that each individual can work at his or her own level of experience and will be able to modify exercises because of physical limitations.
We recommend that you bring appropriate clothing to change into for your work out!
